Be Gone Evil Soft Top

Well my days of drop top driving are a thing of the past now … Well not really, But you know what I mean. On the weekend, I decided that it was time to remove my soft top. I had a general idea of how to remove one, But I double checked online just in case I was missing something, Fortunately I came across Adam’s ( website. There’s a pretty good tutorial written on there about removing the soft top. I did the exact same thing that Adam has done too.

So, Driving Sports – Twilight Drift is this weekend, And there’s still a few little things I need to sort out before then.

Stick around!

Maxxis i-Pro

I’ve been needing a decent pair of tyres at the front for quite a while now, As I’ve had a lot of understeering issues on the track, And a lack of front end grip in general. So I headed down to JAX tyres Smithfield to get some new shoes on.

So, Your probably wondering why I went with Maxxis ? Well I used to use Maxxis tyres back in my mountain biking days, And I never had a problem with them, They are quite reputable in the biking industry too.

As soon as I jumped back in the car, And turned out of the driveway, I could already feel great feedback, It’s amazing what a decent pair of tyres can do. The real test will be the upcoming Twilight Drift, And a new event dubbed Mid-Week Drift.

This weekend, I’ll be ripping out the soft top, And tinkering with other things.

Stick around.

Twilight Drift Photos

Heres some pictures I found of my car in action last week. Thank you Daniel G for taking these awesome pics!

The Twilight Drift Saga Continues

Yesterday was another Driving Sports “Twilight Drift”event that Adan and I attended. Once again, it went off without a hitch! I managed to get some in-car footage too, But I do need a bigger capacity memory card, As I only managed to record 3-4 runs.

Adan ended up trying out the peanut, While I stuck to the skidpan. The extra lock obtained with the iConcept tie rods is quite noticeable. It’s helped me keep control of the car better, And reduced the change of running out of lock. I think I only spun out a handful of times. This is a must do for any Roadster owner planning to do some drifting, Get yourself some tie rods!

The only little drama I had, My gauges were acting up, There must be a loose earth somewhere. The car didn’t seem to like light load either, Seemed to sort itself out towards the end of the night though.

Heres some vid’s of the night. (Yeah I still need to get an embedding option!)

Oh, My Beatrush PPF brace arrived yesterday from Beatrush themselves. Amazing quality piece. I’ll do a review on that shortly.

Stick around!

Hanging Out At Adan’s House

Well I haven’t seen Adan for a WHOLE WEEK!, He was free and so was I, So I headed over to his joint to get some shit sorted on the car. First up, I wanted to get these sideskirts fitted. So off we went to Repco to get some sealant and race tape.

The passenger side skirt lines up like shit, But the driver’s side is pretty spot on … funny that. The colour isn’t too bad either, I mean it could be better but  for a spray can job, I think it turned out pretty damn good.

Next up were the D1 Generation bonnet pins. Now these were a little tricky, But Adan managed to get it all sorted, Heres how it started, Sorting out where we wanted them to sit etc.

Next up, Adan got to work with his trusty hack saw.

An hour or so later, These puppies were installed! Not only do they replace those other stupid ones I had, They actually work! Oh and they don’t look too bad either.

Funnily enough, The main reason to go to his place was to pick up my wheel/tyre that I got Adan to take to Twilight Drift for me, But we both managed to forget about it! MMM, I still need to get some more paint for this bumper, It is definitely too light as is. I’ll sort it out within the next few days.

Twilight Drift Pictures

Heres a few pictures of the RG MX-5 in action at the latest Driving Sports event. Hopefully I’ll have a camera mount for next event so I can get some in-car footage.

Thanks Khoa, And Luke for getting these shots.

Static Saturday!

Well today was a busy day for both me and the missus. We woke up early in the morning and went on our way to Just Jap in Kirrawee. You see, “Panda” (as I like to call my missus) has been wanting spacers for her S14 for a long time, And she finally decided that today, She was to buy them.

So anyway I fitted them up for her, And the wheels now sit perfectly, Just a bit of poke and the sidewall is caressing the inner guard. The spacers effectively change the offset to +13.

So after I finished playing with the S14, I drawed my attention to the Roadster. Seeing I rocked it top down all night, I did get a little wet. So I needed to air it out. One thing that worried me though was that I managed to get a fair bit of water in the boot, Which I’ll need to look at before the next event.

Anyway, I took Panda as a passenger for the night but only had the one helmet. So I loaned my buddy Lionel’s helmet, Which just happened to be an open face. I decided to use it for the night, and fell in love with it. So after we finished up at Just Jap, We headed off to The Helmet Warehouse and picked up this approved RXT helmet for only $79.95! This was the exact helmet I wore last night, And was extremely comfortable throughout the night.

I didn’t grab much for myself at Just Jap, Just some silicone joiners for an idea I had. Some might remember my previous setup for the 3 inch joiners onto the AFM (If not, Check this out), But this seemed to be rather ineffective as when the tape would gain heat, It would become soft and change shape, Resulting in blocking the AFM and killing the car’s performance. So the plan was to use a 2.5 inch jointer and cut it so it sits snug on the AFM, and clamp the 3 inch joiner onto that.

This works like a charm! I no longer need to worry about the tape deforming and blocking stuff up.

So yeah, thats what I got up to today. Hopefully I’ll find some snaps of the Roadster in action and I can get them up here!

Stick around!
